It’s that time again! From illuminating podcasts to the perfect pout, here’s a quick rundown of the various awesomeness I’ve been digging lately. In no particular order:
I look forward to this brilliant podcast each and every Wednesday. Claire (Mazur) and Erica (Cerulo) are the co-founders of Of a Kind, a thoughtfully curated e-commerce platform for emerging fashion, home and jewelry designers that also tells the stories behind the brands it features. Most of the products are available in limited editions, hence the name, “Of a Kind.”
Their podcast, “A Few Things with Claire and Erica,” is an extension of their deeply addictive weekly newsletter, which shares their latest favorite things. The podcast covers everything from DIY skincare to the best travel apps to the healthy snacks you need to know about, all with the same incredible attention to detail that makes their site so special. It’s so informative that I’ve dedicated an entire note in my Clear app to their savvy suggestions, all supplied like that friend who always knows exactly where you should go to get whatever it is that you currently need, even if you aren’t yet aware that you need it. It’s genius, and endlessly entertaining. Get into it.
In my opinion, the truest sign of solid product is a repeat purchase of it. And well, while I didn’t purchase this lipgloss the first time I tried it, the second I misplaced the sample my bestie MK gifted to me, I immediately ran to Sephora to replace it.
The color is gorgeous, my perfect nude-but-better shade, with just the right amount of shine. But what truly makes this product a must-have is the way it feels. It feels – refreshing, slightly cool on the lips. It’s packed with shea, avocado and murumuru butters to provide hydration in addition to the color, as well as vitamin A, C and E complex to offer a boost of antioxidants. Also, it smells subtly delicious, like it was blended with the faint essence of Thin Mints.
This is my go-to spring fragrance for the second year running. It’s light and pretty yet still sophisticated. And because I can’t quite put my finger on how to describe the scent, here’s what Sephora says about it:
“The scent features sparkling top notes of bright yuzu and mandarin, uplifted by pineapple leaves, luscious lychee, and grapes. The body reveals a floral mix of peony, peach blossom, sweet pea with just a hint of nashi. The fragrance dries to a luminous veil of white musk and creamy amyris wood.”
I also love that it’s available as a rollerball, which is the only way I buy my fragrances these days. I love that I can carry it in my purse for easy touch-ups, and it’s the perfect size for plane travel. The price point also makes trying a luxury fragrance more accessible. And by the time it runs out (usually 3 months in my experience), I’m ready to test-drive a new scent.
Last month I traveled to Vegas for a wedding weekend. Ahead of the trip, I wanted to purchase a few new items that would be fitting for such an occasion – and also update the “going out” section of my closet.
I came across Revolve on Instagram, as several of my fave bloggers and vloggers are major fans. I love the LA-inspired style of their clothes – and I also love their well-stocked sale section, where I found the exact pieces I needed. Revolve offers free 2-3 day shipping on all US orders and free returns, as well. Pure win.
So, yeah, Birchbox isn’t new. And yeah, I’ve had a subscription previously. But remember what I said about repeat purchases speaking volumes?
I decided to take a break from Birchbox because I felt like I was drowning in samples from multiple sources, and while the $10/month price is quite affordable, it felt somewhat unnecessary. Yet after a one year hiatus, I realized just how much I missed it.
Similar to what I mentioned about Of a Kind, I’m realizing how much I appreciate a well-curated discovery experience. I was introduced to some of my all-time favorite products thanks to Birchbox. And it’s also so lovely to receive a carefully selected and packaged gift each month, chock full of items suiting my specific needs. All that for the cost of a couple lattes? Worth it.
What have you been loving this month?
