A Fresh Crop

Kristen Berry

I’ve made a bit of progress on my fashion goal of playing with proportions.

You might recall from my recent post on the topic that style consultant/creative director Shiona Turini consistently inspires me with her crop top game. I decided to take a page out of her book with this recent outfit.

A few of Shiona’s top crops, via Instagram (@shionat).

I love how Shiona typically balances out her abbreviated tops with a longer, fuller skirt. She also often pairs a top in a single color with a boldly printed bottom, creating a clean, graphic look.

I don’t typically gravitate toward skirts this long, but I couldn’t pass up this print. I also love that the slits on each side provide a bit of extra movement, and offer a glimpse of leg.

This outfit actually lasted through an entire day and night during a recent weekend trip to LA, from brunch to afternoon drinks to dinner to a nightcap, and it felt appropriate for every activity. At least in LA :).

Also, can we talk about the back of this top?! The floral detail adds a lovely bit of unexpected interest.

  • Top: Lovers + Friends Stormy Crop Top, on sale for $59 at Revolve.com.
  • Skirt: H&M Patterned Skirt, $20 at HM.com.

How do you play with proportions in your wardrobe?
