Winter Color

Kristen Berry

When you have a blog with a fashion focus, it can be tempting to purchase new clothes every time you want to write a post. But Faux Fancy is about style inspiration for real women, and real women have to get creative with the clothes they have, not shop every time they get bored.

And that’s what I did for this outfit. All of the items I’m wearing in this look are at least a year old (though the top is still available -- see details below!).

It’s amazing what you come up with when you play dress up with your own wardrobe. I have a mood board next to my closet where I post style pictures that inspire me.  The base of this look was loosely inspired by a photo I spotted of Kendall Jenner (see below). I love wearing unexpected colors like bright white and pink in the fall and winter months, when most other folks are outfitting themselves in darker shades.

Since it’s still not quite turtleneck weather in the San Francisco Bay Area, I paired my skirt with a lacey top instead of a sweater, as in Kendall’s look.

In addition to pairing nicely with the bright skirt, I love the coziness of this soft coat. Its slight casualness also keeps the look from feeling too formal. And the hood makes it practical for inclement weather.

It also hilariously coordinated with the jacket MK wore when we met to shoot the pictures for this post. #Twinning much?

One way to update your style without shopping for new clothes? Try a new makeup look. Play around with the eyeshadow shades you tend to ignore in the palettes you own. Or that bold lip color you bought but haven’t had the nerve to wear just yet. Or both!

For this makeup look, I played around with a few eyeshadow shades from the awesome new Le Grand Chateau holiday set from Too Faced, a super sweet birthday gift from my mom. Check out all the details from this look in my Instagram post, here!
